Extreme Challenge at -45°C: Shandong Super Power Completes Precision Installation of 1,000 kW Natural Gas Units in Yakutsk, Russia

Yakutsk, Sakha Republic, Russian Far East – the coldest permanently inhabited place on Earth. In this frozen land where winter temperatures often plummet below -45°C, the technical team of Shandong Super Power Technology Co., Ltd. has written a remarkable chapter of Chinese equipment manufacturing going global with a field operation that was nothing short of surgical precision.

Project Spotlight: Two Weichai 16M33 Series 1,000 kW Units Head into the "Pole of Cold"

The mission was to travel to a mining site in Mirny, Yakutsk, and complete the full-process installation of two Weichai 16M33 Series 1,000 kW natural gas generator sets. Renowned for high reliability, low fuel consumption, and excellent thermal balance management, this series is Weichai Power's flagship model designed for extreme working conditions. Yet no matter how rugged the equipment, every lift and every pipeline connection in the brutal cold of Yakutsk tested the team's skills, planning, and endurance.

On-site Report: Hoisting into Place with Zero Deviation

Upon arrival at the Mirny site, the team's first challenge was precision hoisting of large equipment on permafrost and ice. The crane operated steadily in the biting wind. The two generator sets were smoothly hoisted and placed in sequence. Base bolt tightening torques were verified item by item, and levelness and centerline deviations were controlled to within millimeters – hoisting and positioning passed the first inspection with zero rework.

Full System Connection: Gas Pipes, Liquid Lines, Cables – Done Right

Hoisting was only the beginning. The real battle was the full system field connection:

  • Natural gas piping: Low-temperature sealing and anti-brittle fracture procedures were strictly followed. Every weld and every flange underwent rigorous leak detection.

  • Coolant piping: Specially formulated antifreeze for extreme cold was used. Pipe routing was optimized to ensure unimpeded circulation.

  • Cables and control system: Hundreds of meters of power cables and control signal wires were laid according to drawings. Terminations were clearly labeled, and all insulation tests passed.

All connections were successful on the first try – no rework, no leaks, no miswiring.

Ready for Start-up: Professionalism – The Strongest Response to Extreme Cold

With the last bolt tightened and the final leak test passed, the two generator sets are now in standby mode. Coolant preheating system, gas pressure, ignition signal – everything is ready. On-site engineers stood in the snow, recording every set of data. This was not a gamble, but a controlled delivery based on thorough calculations and experience.

"Any oversight here could cause equipment to freeze and crack or fail to start," said the on-site project manager. "Our contingency plans addressed the material properties of every component at low temperatures. 'Flawless accuracy' is not a slogan; it is our bottom line."

In the land of extreme cold, witness Chinese precision.
